'A Houthi official said Monday [, 12 Oct 2026] there would be a "swift and painful" response if the U.S. joins Saudi Arabia's strikes against the Iran-backed group, after President Trump said he was considering joining the offensive.' https://t.co/hnFycQdQnz

BREAKING, The Pentagon has reported that a U.S. warship and several commercial vessel is under attack in the Red Sea. THIS MARKS A MAJOR ESCALATION IN THE ISRAEL-HAMAS WAR. An American warship and several commercial ships were attacked in the Red Sea, as reported by the Pentagon, signaling a possible major escalation in maritime assaults linked to the Israel-Hamas conflict. The USS Carney, an Arleigh Burke-class destroyer, was among the vessels reported to be attacked. The British military had noted a suspected drone attack and explosions in the Red Sea earlier. The Pentagon, however, did not specify the source of the attack. Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels have been involved in similar attacks in the Red Sea and have targeted Israel with drones and missiles amidst the ongoing conflict in Gaza. According to a U.S. official, the attack started around 10 a.m. in Sanaa, Yemen, and lasted up to five hours. The Carney reportedly intercepted at least one drone during the attack. The Houthis have not commented on this incident but indicated that an important announcement would be made soon. The maritime attacks have been escalating as the Israel-Hamas war threatens to expand regionally. The collapse of a brief truce and the resumption of Israeli airstrikes and ground operations have increased the likelihood of further seaborne attacks. Earlier, the Houthis seized a vehicle transport ship linked to Israel in the Red Sea and continue to hold it near Hodeida. Another U.S. warship was also targeted by missiles last week after aiding a vessel linked to Israel. This escalation marks a significant development, as the Houthis had not directly targeted American forces for some time. In response to previous attacks, the U.S. had launched Tomahawk cruise missiles at Houthi-controlled radar sites in 2016.
